When things become more important than us!

“The crisis of city is revealed in a banal and drastic manner in the traffic problem. Here it can be seen that the crisis consists of a self-contradiction that is repeated in many forms and disguises: mobility is an ideal of urban life. But boundless increases in mobility lead to immobility. Overflowing traffic brings itself to a standstill.
This gives a lot away. It is vividly clear that mobility as such-and from the beginning-has been a form of immobility. Because we are dealing with an internal contradiction, all measures aimed at external symptoms will ultimately come to nothing.”
Heinrich Rombach

I really like this quotation because it is about the story of modern life when we become the servant of our things. All the multimedia are imposing us how to enjoy our life, what to eat and to wear. Every where we hear about 5 fast ways of making dinner, 5 fast ways of losing weight, 5 effective ways of talking to our boss, 5 easy ways of spending the time on holidays and 5 best gifts on Valentine Day. Our whole life is getting formulized and we are unconsciously ruled by our things. All the objects whose primarily purpose were to make us happy become a symptom of stress. We become upset if we see a line on our car or the wine spot on our sofa.

Last week, I was shopping in a mall and was talking to another woman about the good deal for buying a coat. In the middle of our speech, her husband called and asked why she had not come back home and why she was upset. The woman replied “because I have lost my earrings!” I happily bought the coat and left watching her wandering between rows of clothes ruining her night for an earring! My father says when I was a child every time I broke something I said” No problem nothing has happened we can attach it together by glue”.
