As an immigrant, I think one of those stupid rights in North America is to have your name being pronounced correctly (I don't care about family name!). Thanks God my name only have 5 alphabets "Bahar" because I really didn't like my name to be called in a shorten meaningless way like "Bah"!!
When I was living in Calgary people were calling me by my passport name. Most of the times they were telling me: "It's hard for us to pronounce "Bahar" so we go for Leila"!!
Like all other parts of my life in Calgary that I let people behave me the way the wanted, I accepted the fact to be called Leila. I was telling myself silently, I had learned thousands of words in English with correct pronunciation; couldn't they pronounce one word of my language?

Now, I cannot believe it people are calling me in Toronto by Bahar so beautifully! One of those obvious rights I had to fight for!
